Henna Tattoo Care Guide

:: Preperation ::

• Be sure to avoid applying any lotions or oils on the area of skin that you would like a henna tattoo on. Clean skin will yield the best results!

• If the area of skin you would like to have a henna tattoo has lots of hair / longer hair, shaving hair from that area will also help the henna tattoo process along.

• If you are pregnant, be sure to let the Artist know so that she can make a special batch for you.

:: After Care ::

• Fresh henna paste takes about 20 minutes to dry. Wait to touch paste to avoid smearing!

• Leave Henna Paste on as long as possible! For a nice dark stain, leave on for 4-6 hrs  (8-12 hours is ideal). The longer you leave the paste on the darker the stain will be! Leave on for 1 hour minimum.

DO NOT remove henna with water!! Instead you can scrape or peel off and use a natural oil to loosen paste.

• It is best to avoid water on that area of the skin, for as long as possible to allow the henna stain to penetrate skin layers. 12-24 hours is best for a lasting stain. You can wrap area with plastic or hold out of water, if showering before the 12 hour mark. If water is not avoided before this time, you will still have a stain, it just won’t be as dark as it could be or last as long as it could if you avoid water initially.

• Apply a natural balm / oil to stained skin before exposing to water. Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter or Vaseline are good options. Water exposure does make the design fade faster over time. The tattoo will last around 1 week with no treatment and 2 weeks if skin is treated with oil.

• The darkest appearance of the henna design will appear 2 days after application.

• Sun & Heat are great for the tattoo and can help darken the stain! Go catch that sunshine!
